The game was officially released for Meta Quest on July 25th, 2024 for $11.99CAD.
Are you looking for a new, inexpensive parkour challenge in virtual reality? Well, Rogue Games heard your internal pleas and has finally released Stabby VR, a noir-style adventure that has players swinging from buildings, hiding in dark corners, and of course, stabbing the living crap out of anything that moves.
It's not all just stab, stab, stab, though - some finesse is required to be successful and make your place on the live leaderboard. At the beginning, players are advised to complete the three-part training levels (basic, hunting, grappling) to get accustomed to the mechanics of the game. As someone who appreciates simpler mechanics, it was nice to pick up the tools I needed, and quickly, so I could jump in and start the assassination.
The game boasts several different play options, including but not limited to:
5 single-player challenges that test player ability and train for future battles
A 3-star rating system for each level, helping players compare their gameplay
Avatar and weapon customization to show off in multiplayer mode
3 multiplayer modes - Classic, King of the Hill, and Stab Tag
In the public lobby, there were roughly half a dozen other players and from what I could hear from the live chat, it was mostly, if not all, young children. Immediately, the squeaking commenced, with kids throwing around racial slurs, threats of sexual assault, and bullying each other. While I found the mute button in the settings easily, I couldn't locate a block button for safety purposes. But as I've been told in the past, this is just the kind of behaviour that I should expect from any public lobby -_-
I would love to try out Stabby VR again but in a private lobby with people that I know - I feel like this would make the game more enjoyable personally. Overall, I dig the artistry of the noir-style graphics, enjoy the simplicity of the mechanics, and love how fast-paced everything is, from diving off skyscrapers to stealthily sneaking up on enemies before the attack.
